2 Dreams Go On volunteers attended Wilson College in
Chambersburg PA on
May 12 -16, 2007. They completed Phase I: Instructor
Training Course (technical part)
and will attend Phase II: October 6-9,2007.
Phase I: The course was 4 1/2 days. Provided overview of physical and
mental challenges, analysis of the horse's movement and how it affects the
rider. The ins and outs of administrating a program and other helpful
information.
As the profession has grown, so have the expectations for practitioners
grown. There is so much more to participating in any equine assisted
activity than having an individual with a physical or mental challenge sit
on a horse and be led around -this is a pony ride not a therapeutic ride.
Through the certification process you're letting your riders, their
families, and the public know that you are concerned about safety methods,
education and standards of practice.
Therapeutic Riding: Meeting the physical, mental, social and emotional
needs and goals of students with physical and mental challenges through
horsemanship skills.
Instructor Training: Knowledge in riding skills, teaching skills, well
rounded understanding of physical and mental challenges including
precautions and contraindications, goal setting, lesson planning. The
certified
instructor are qualified to teach and mentor others.
